Show Flock of the Year
The Show Flock of the Year award will be based on points from each breeder’s eight best shows from the shows listed in this Newsletter. For a class to be eligible, it must have 3 or more entries from 2 or more breeders.
Show Flock of the Year (N.I.)
This year a new trophy has been added for the Show Flock of the Year in Northern Ireland. This trophy has been kindly donated by Ann Ford and will be for all breeders in the 6 Counties who are excluded from showing in the Republic due to Department of Agriculture restrictions.
The criteria will be as above except that, at present, there are only THREE qualifying shows. These are Castlewellan, Clogher Valley and Omagh (dates on Shows page).
We would welcome the addition of further show venues and would urge you to let us know if you have any suggestions. Initially, it might not be possible to get classes for Vendéens but if 2 breeders participate in “open” classes – they will still qualify under the present criteria.
Novice Show Flock Competition
This award is in the form of a perpetual trophy kindly sponsored by the “Killeen Vendéen Flock” and is confined to new breeders who have joined the Irish Vendéen Sheep Society within the last three years. Points will be awarded in the same way as the “Show flock of the Year” competition but will be based on the breeder’s best 5 shows of those listed.
In addition to the major shows listed here, there are numerous smaller Agricultural shows taking place in nearly every town and village across the Country. Taking part in these smaller shows is one of the best ways of showcasing our sheep as people will often take an interest and ask questions about the breed. Please try to enter in your local shows – even if they do not have Vendéen classes there will usually be continental classes that you could enter. This is a great way to meet other sheep breeders and, maybe, potential customers. It is also great fun!
